A Day Without Power
Can you imagine life without electricity?
Think about a few minutes without electricity. Not a big deal, since our phones are battery-powered. We can go a few minutes without much concern. Now think about a few hours, a work day, or even a 24-hour period. Consider how different even a day without electricity could be.
What would you miss? What routines would change?
In the morning, there’s no hot water for a shower or dryer for your hair. Without a coffee maker, microwave or refrigerator for storing eggs and milk, breakfast options are limited. Cell phones can’t be charged without power, so rising to an alarm or checking the weather forecast aren’t part of the morning routine, either.
Need gas for the drive to work? Pumps won’t work without power. Stoplights can’t operate either.
On the job, there are no computers, printers or phones. Communication tools like email and the internet are also reliant on electricity. Without air conditioning, fans and lights, the office is hot or cold, and dark, too.
Not feeling well? Modern medical treatments heavily depend on electric-powered equipment to diagnose and treat patients.
After work, there’s no TV or light to read by. Tasks like preparing dinner and doing the laundry are far more physical and time-consuming. Once the day’s natural light fades, you have to find another source of light or go to bed with the sun.
Life without electricity means losing many necessities and conveniences in our daily routines. It’s a powerful reminder of how deeply electricity shapes modern life for the better.
Electricity powers every moment of every day of our modern life. And we’re working hard for you every moment of every day to make sure you have it.
