GRAYSON RURAL ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE CORPORATION

2024 SCHOLARSHIP

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

This scholarship program, which is open to both young men and women, is designed to enhance the education and resulting careers of deserving students in our service territory.

Ten (10), one thousand ($1,000.) scholarships will be awarded.

1. Entrant must be a traditional (senior) or non-traditional student at time of application.  Non-traditional students are defined as any student not attending a college or technical school immediately after high school.

2. Entrant must be enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, an accredited educational or training institution of his or her choice.

3. Entrant must reside on Grayson Rural Electric lines, or the primary residence of their parents or guardian must be located on Grayson Rural Electric lines.  Member account number must be in the parent or legal guardian’s name.

4. All entrants must complete an application and write a 250-500 word essay that describes: Share your personal experience of dealing with challenges such as family hardships, personal setbacks, sickness and then explain how you navigated the experience and what you learned from the experience. Each student should submit a list of Academic Honors and/or awards received in High School, a list of school related clubs, activities, and achievements and community clubs and activities, and achievements.

5. Scholarship funds will be paid to an accredited educational training institution and the student upon receipt of appropriate evidence that the candidate has been accepted and is enrolled as a full-time student.   No money will be paid directly to the recipient.  Scholarships will be awarded for the 2024 Fall semester. 

6. Unused scholarship funds will be retained by Grayson Rural Electric.  Unused funds may result if a recipient ceases to be a student or if proper certification of enrollment is not received by Grayson Rural Electric in a timely manner.

7. Entries will be judged on the following: essay, school and community involvement and scholastic achievements, and official transcript and ACT and/or SAT scores.

8. Grade Point Average (curriculum will be considered as well as grades).  An official transcript must accompany the application as well as a copy of ACT and/or SAT scores.

9. The student must not be a member of the immediate family of an employee, director or manager of Grayson Rural Electric.  (Immediate family as defined by Grayson RECC Board Policy is as follows: children, foster children, grandchildren, brother or sister, husband, wife, parents, foster parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, or any relative living in the employee, manager or Director’s household).

Applications must be submitted on or before February 29, 2024. Applications received after February 29, 2024, will not be considered.

When returning this application, please include the following:

• Copy of high school transcripts (with current grade point average)
• Copy of SAT/ACT test scores.
• Summary page of your school, group, club, community and employment activities, awards and accomplishments.
• 250 - 500 word essay on Share your personal experience of dealing with challenges such as family hardships, personal setbacks, sickness and then explain how you navigated the experience and what you learned from the experience.

To qualify I am aware that I must be an active member or a dependent of an active member of Grayson RECC and a permanent resident in Grayson RECC's service area. I declare that the accompanying essay and this application are solely my own work .

I am aware that if I am awarded a scholarship, I must provide Grayson RECC with proof of full-time (at least 12 hours) enrollment from a recognized institute of higher education and the funds will be paid directly to that institute for the Fall 2023 semester.

I agree to permit the review of this application by anyone representing Grayson RECC or its appointed Scholarship Review Committee and, if selected as a winner, to having my name used in promotions related to the scholarship award. I am also aware that applications that do not follow the directions, late applications (deadline to arrive at Grayson RECC is February 28, 2023), or incomplete applications will not be considered.
